Hello everyone! I am Marquez Turner, a rising junior dance major from Denmark, SC, and a student at the illustrious institution for Black male excellence, Morehouse College. Since my acceptance during the summer of 2022, I anticipated covering out-of-state tuition at a private college to be challenging. Fortunately, with the help of my mentor and numerous gracious donors, the tuition expenses for my freshman and sophomore years were covered.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now confronted with the daunting task of finding ways to help pay for school. I have applied for countless loans, but luck has not been on my side. Although my mom and extended family wish to lend a helping hand, they cannot assist me because of their financial constraints. Over the past few weeks, I have been applying for scholarships and looking for grants. As a result of not meeting strict requirements, I am ineligible to apply for those that would cover a significant amount of my tuition.
This situation has jeopardized my enrollment and placed me in a situation that no college student should face. At times, my dream of obtaining a degree from Morehouse has been marred by financial worries and a lack of funds only serves to turn that dream into a nightmare. Thankfully, my mentor has the means to cover at least half of my fall tuition, which is $16,515. This leaves me with an $8,000 gap.
The goal of this fundraiser is to cover the remainder of my tuition, which will allow for my continued enrollment at Morehouse. The opportunities I receive at this institution are second to none and have drastically changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. I humbly ask that you allow Morehouse College to continue shaping me into a well-rounded leader who embodies what it truly means to be a Morehouse Man. No donation is too small.
