Help Marrufo Family Get Wheelchair Accessible Van
In April of 2009, my boyfriend’s father, Marco Antonio Marrufo, was diagnosed with ALS. Those of you who do not know what ALS is, it stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It’s a fairly rare nervous system disease where nerve cells break down to the point that proper muscle functionality is not possible.
In 2012, a very kind friend sold Marco a wheelchair accessible van that they had previously used for a loved one for a low price. Unfortunately, this van has taken a turn for the worst. It has broken down three separate times for complex reasons and the automatic sliding door derailed and tore through the door frame, making it unable to shut. The large amount that it would take to fix this van is the reason it has not been done.
My boyfriend recently found a used van that is approximately $10,000. We are scared about missing out on the opportunity to purchase this perfect van. I don’t expect to raise this much, but I am hoping that a little help for my boyfriend’s family will alleviate some of the stress they have. Anything is a kind gesture; a donation, sharing the post, anything.
On average, only 10% of people with ALS live longer than 10 years. Marco has lived for almost 12 years with the disease. He is incredibly strong and he is going to keep up his fight for years to come. With your help, he could make important medical trips and meaningful outings with a new wheelchair accessible van.
