Help Martha Rebuild Her Life After Hurricane Helene

Hello, my name is Felipe Gomez, and I’m Martha’s cousin. I’ve always been a deep admirer of her incredible artistic talent and the passion she pours into her work. After seeing the devastating impact Hurricane Helene has had on both her and her daughter's lives, I felt compelled to do something to help them recover.

Martha has lost everything.

When Hurricane Helene struck North Carolina, it destroyed not only Martha’s home but also her livelihood. A talented artist from Marshall, NC, Martha saw her home and her art studio at the Marshall High Studios building swept away by the floodwaters. Years of creativity, passion, and hard work disappeared in a matter of hours. Her studio, once a sanctuary for her art and a source of inspiration, is no more.

In addition to her artwork, Martha relied on other sources of income that were also lost in the storm. With both her studio and her supplementary income wiped out, she now faces the daunting challenge of rebuilding her life from the ground up.

Martha’s daughter, Sophia, was also affected by the hurricane. She had just moved into her first apartment in Asheville’s vibrant River Arts District when the storm hit. Her neighborhood was one of the hardest-hit areas, leaving her new home uninhabitable and forcing her to put her plans on hold as she navigates this unexpected hardship.

We are raising $50,000 to help Martha and Sophia rebuild their lives— While both mother and daughter face a long road to recovery, this campaign focuses on ensuring Martha can regain her footing and rebuild both her art career and her livelihood, this includes finding stable housing, replacing essential belongings, and helping Martha re-establish her art studio and recover her lost sources of income, so she can return to the work that has always brought her so much joy and meaning.
