Help Martina fund her temporary home health care
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Paul Kieffer and I am helping my friend Martina Budak (left in the photo) pay for her home health care after breaking her right leg. Martina is 42 years old and was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on February 2, 2012. ALS is proceeding upwards from her feet. On February 4, 2023 Martina fell at home while dressing and broke both bones in her lower right leg, requiring two plates and 20 screws to repair the compound fracture. Doctors initially believed that after an eight week recovery period Martina would be able to stand again and use her walker as before, utilizing her arm strength to compensate for her ALS-weakened legs. However, after eight weeks x-rays showed that because of ALS insufficient healing had taken place. Another six weeks of immobility were deemed necessary, which will end at the end of May. Since returning home from the operation Martina has had to have home health care three times a day as she is unable to move her legs, sit up on her own, stand, go to the bathroom, etc. With her weakened condition due to immobility she will likely need home health care through September, with the cost being about $2,000 per month. I want to help her get through this so she can regain her mobility and independence for as long as she can with her ALS condition. Thanks for any help you can provide!
