Help Marty Vause Fight Cancer

Donation protected
In September 2017 Marty became quite ill with what doctor’s thought was pneumonia but in October 2017 he was diagnosed with stage IV Mantle Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (MCL).  MCL is an aggressive and relatively rare cancer that at this time is treatable but not curable. He has been through the first round of chemotherapy and is currently in remission.    Even in remission, relapse is inevitable.  To slow the progression of this disease and to give Marty the best chance of surviving more than five years he must undergo a autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) with high dose chemotherapy, 5-10 times stronger than normal. The ASCT has to be done while he is in remission. He will be hospitalized for at least a month and unable to work for at least three months while he recovers and his immune system rebuilds itself. After the (ASCT) he will receive immunotherapy infusions every other month for three years. He will continue to fight this cancer with every ounce of energy that he has.

Marty is definitely a fighter! Twenty years ago he survived a near fatal vehicle accident.  He sustained a traumatic brain injury along with many other injuries.  He fought back and learned to walk, talk, swallow and recovered many other involuntary actions we take for granted on a daily basis. Although right handed, because of injuries sustained in the accident he also had to learn to become left handed. Not one to sit around and feel sorry for himself and in spite of his disabilities and injuries he eventually went back to school and earned associate, bachelor, and master degrees.  A few years ago, he gave up his social security disability and became a Drug and Alcohol Counselor where he teaches others how to lead clean and sober lives. By his commitment and dedication to AA and to overcoming his own addictions and disabilities he has been and continues to be an inspiration to many.

Marty’s attitude toward this devastating diagnosis is admirable.  As with many other situations in his life he responds with "IT IS WHAT IT IS AND YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO."  But now Marty needs help to cover insurance co-payments, out of pocket medical expenses and other ongoing daily expenses that will continue while he is not able to work. Marty is single and has no other source of income.

Thank you for your help and support. God bless each of you.
