Help Marvin with Unexpected Childcare Expenses
Donation protected
Hi there. Many of you know my dad, Marvin "Butch" Waterman. He would never ask anyone for help, but he's the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back.
In September, Butch had ankle surgery to fix years of untreated sprains and fractures that left him barely able to walk. On October 17, 2023, one day short of a month post-surgery, he was admitted to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) because his toe was turning black. His foot was infected, and, unfortunately, they could not save his leg.
After the amputation, he had to delay rehab due to a brain bleed that occurred sometime while he was in the hospital. I flew back to be with him while he recovered at ECMC. All of this sounds very bleak, but I'll add a bit of positivity here. After 16 days in the hospital, Butch was moved to a rehab facility closer to home. His surgical wound is great, and all of his health is stable.
So why am I setting up a GoFundMe?
For those of you who don't know, my dad is the sole provider for my nephew (12) and twin nieces (7). The amputation is a complete life-altering event. He is currently unable to work (he runs a roofing business), and while he heals, we have to pay for childcare.
I am hopeful that he will come home soon, but in the meantime, we need support to make sure the kids are cared for and the bills are paid. I'm asking for $10,000—2 months of expenses—to cover weekly childcare costs and some general maintenance to ensure his house makes it through the Western New York winter while he is in rehab.
I know money is tight, and the holidays are approaching, but we truly appreciate whatever you can give. Every little bit helps!
