Magdalene Dance is a Los Angeles based studio that believes in dance not only as a source for creative expression, but also a source of healing. To us, community is everything. We can’t exist without it. At Magdalene, our mission is to always provide a judgement-free, inclusive space where dancers of ALL types can create freely & be part of a collective where they feel they truly belong.
Hi, I'm Mary Vu, and I'm the founder & CEO of Magdalene Dance.
Here’s the problem: The Florida House Experience quotes "88% of women & 65% of men compare their body to images in the media" That is not ok!
Many people are pressured to look the way highly edited media portrays people of all colors, shapes and sizes, but every person is built differently. There's so much body-shaming, self-loathing, body dysmorphia, and more out there in media.
1. It's unrealistic
2. It's demeaning
3. (And most importantly) It lacks the emphasis on self-love
I have been a pole dancer for the past 5 years and it took me trying pole fitness to become confident in my own body. Growing up, I was teased & mocked, which gave me a feeling of deep insecurity almost all my life. Dance has done for me what it has done for many others, which was to empower & love our bodies as the unique & beautiful vessels that they are.
I know how it feels to judge your body and the pain of trying to hide it. I also understand the power of embracing and loving your body and the confidence that comes with that. I'm on a mission to heal the body shame in my community through loving and appreciating our bodies. I healed my deep wounds and began loving my body, and myself, through dance. My mission is to create a space where ALL bodies are celebrated in motion. This is a problem that we, as a community, can solve together!
My clients are open-minded people who feel body insecurity, but know, deep down, that they are total badass individuals who’d love to learn all forms of dance and want to be around encouraging and uplifting people.
I am raising money on GFM to help start my dance studio in LA, to help individuals build confidence, love their bodies, and thus, themselves. To build an inclusive community and movement to break the stereotype of how a body should look. I’ll be offering pole dancing, breakdancing, voguing, choreography & much more for beginners up to advanced levels.
Please share this page on your social media platforms and help get the word out! Thank you so much for your support in helping Magdalene Dance grow into a successful business that promotes a judgment-free & inclusive space for people in my community!
