Help Mary & Family Rebuild after Tragic Loss

We’re writing to you today to ask for support for our dear friend Mary, who recently endured a devastating car accident, resulting in the tragic loss of her father, Masood, along with virtually all of her belongings.

In the previous weeks, Mary had been preparing for a cross country move while her partner, Alex, was away completing flight attendant training. After receiving his assignment in Boston, Mary worked to downsize their life in Sacramento and prepare for the journey. She donated and sold most of their belongings, including her car, taking only their most essential or prized possessions that could fit inside Alex’s SUV.

Masood, who loved to travel, accompanied his daughter on the trip while Alex began his new career. They were enjoying their time together and documenting landmarks along the way. They were approaching the halfway point on their second day of driving when the tragedy took place. During the accident and the stunning loss of her father, their car was damaged beyond use or recognition, and Mary and Alex’s belongings were completely destroyed.

We are so grateful that Mary is still with us and is recovering from her injuries. We want to help her and Alex recover what they can in the aftermath of this crisis, along with offering support to her and Masood’s family following the loss of a father and husband.

Our goal is to recover, replenish, and address their basic needs and comfort during this emergency and aid in making the transition from this event to their life in Boston as smooth as possible. There is never a good time for an event this devastating, but the timing here is especially painful. Mary hopes to apply to law school soon after arriving in Boston where Alex has been assigned after completing flight attendant training. Moving across the country to join her partner had sponsored a renewed sense of determination, purpose, and excitement. They thought they had been headed in the right direction.

Whatever support you can provide will go a long way in creating a space that Mary and Alex can, in the weeks and months to come, begin their time in Boston and grieve their loss.

Listed below is a preliminary catalog of the possessions that Mary and Alex lost in the wreck. We are especially keen on replacing Mary’s laptop as quickly as possible since she is a remote worker.
