Help Mary Machado's Family with Funeral Costs
Hi, my name is Jenny Xie and I'm a good friend of Mary Machado and her family.
We are mourning the loss of an amazing woman and are trying to find a way to fund her memorial and funeral so that Mary's friends and family can gather and share memories with Mary and spend time remembering her, together.
How I met Mary
I met Mary at a holistic event in Rhode Island in 2016 where she was reading cards and she mentioned she was a Reiki teacher too. I was a Reiki practitioner and was having a hard time in my practice I and asked her if she was taking on new mentees.
We set an appointment for me to start working with her and over the course of the 5 years that I've known her she and I became close. We had nicknames for one another, she was Big Me and I was Little Me. We had a lot of things in common and understood each other on so many levels.
Mary's death leaves a gaping hole in my heart and in my life as I know it has done for everyone else who was close to her.
Fundraising details
Mary's final wishes was to be buried and to have an angel engraved on her headstone. The goal is set for $10,000 so that there is enough for all the funeral costs and fees as well as the church services. All monies donated will go directly to her funeral expenses.
Mary had some money set aside but that money needs to go to the expenses of the home that her son Nick now resides at and will cover him for 3 months.
Her son Nick was Mary's primary caregiver for 2 years and was not able to work while he cared for Mary. Nick just got a job as a security guard and starts very soon, but he needs the money that Mary had set aside in order to keep his household moving forward until he starts to see money rolling in from his job.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for anything you can donate. If you cannot directly donate, please share the link of this fundraiser on your social media pages along with a personal story of how Mary has touched your life.
Mary's legacy of love and kindness
Mary passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, following a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. During her time on earth, she has been a powerful example to us of how no matter the adversity, it is always possible to respond with kindness, love, and forgiveness. Mary leaves us with a gift of inspiration to always grow in our capacity for love, and a presence that lives on in us and encourages us to accept ourselves and each other exactly as we are.
"It's been an interesting journey, learning the art of acceptance. It has taught me to appreciate my life and who I am. To be comfortable and accept one's truth is a beautiful gift." -Mary Machado, The Spiritual Paradox
Below is a video from February 27, 2021 of Mary expressing gratitude and thanks to everyone who has been with her on her journey.
