Help Mary secure a power wheelchair & handicap van

Mary’s medical journey began with what was supposed to be a simple knee replacement. She could have never expected that it would lead her through surgeries and hospitalizations that would span over 14 years.

She tried just about everything to keep her legs. Her osteoporosis and high risk for infection made this even more difficult. Between the knee replacements that were done incorrectly or rejected by her body, broken bones from falls, and infections, Mary has endured over 40 surgeries and the hospital and rehabilitation stays that came with them.

After many attempts to save her legs, it came to a decision that it may be best to amputate. She’s in now the beginning years of her life as a double amputee.

Over the last 14 years, Mary did her best to live her life fully, even though she was constantly redefining normalcy. She raised her children, babysat family and helped other family members when they were in need. Mary has a charitable heart and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, at her churches food bank and with another charity sorting donation clothes.

Mary has been in a manual wheelchair for several years, but has finally been approved for a power chair that was custom made to fit her needs. Unfortunately, that comes with a hefty price tag. Although her insurance covers the majority of that cost, she is still responsible for somehow paying the copay. She is also hoping to have help securing part of a down payment for a handicap accessible roll in van so she can continue to live as actively and independently as she can.
