Help Maryann a Survivor of the Nov 2021 Flood

Donation protected
Maryann was a flood victim of the catastrophic flooding that occurred in Whatcom County, Washington in November 2021. The flood was declared a presidential disaster as it led to the death of one individual, damaged over 2,000 homes, and cut-off/damaged infrastructure across the county. The flooding was even more catastrophic across the border in British Columbia cutting off Vancouver from the rest of mainland Canada. Maryann's home in Everson, WA was her first. She was ground zero during the flood with 8 feet of water in her home, destroying everything. The one fatality occurred behind her home. Maryann is currently living in a trailer as she awaits FEMA funding to buy out her home. After the flood, she was diagnosed with PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) due to the trauma of the flood and also a sense of survivor's guilt as she was not able to help the man that died behind her home.

As of June 30, 2023, she will also be losing all of her post-flood funding assistance as it has been 1.5 years since the flood. Yet, she is still in limbo with only $400/month coming in which is not enough to pay her bills. She fears (for good reason) that she will be homeless if help does not come soon. She is currently awaiting a FEMA grant that will buy her home and allow her to move on and heal from this traumatic experience. For those that don't know, FEMA grants are notoriously slow and arduous to get. It is hoped that the grant will be coming this fall. This means we need to help Maryann stay afloat between now and then. She has been unable to work as a result of the trauma but is doing all she can to heal. This takes time especially when you are left in limbo. She is hoping to start working part-time once she is able to financially move on and move her trailer to Eastern Washington away from the trauma and somewhere where living expenses are cheaper.

These types of events are going to continue to happen more and more as climate change intensifies flooding. Flood victims are in need of much more assistance than they are given. This is where you come in. Please consider donating any amount to Maryann as she works to get back on her feet. Your generosity will help support an amazing individual navigate and heal from this horrific event. I've included a few links below the photos where you can learn more about Maryann's story.
