Help Mason and Brannon rebuild the BRP Family
Donation protected
Brannon and I never imagined we would be in this position but the truth is that we need your help. I am still trying to process the magnitude of everything that has happened, the devastation and losses to our community, and the events that happened along the Nolichucky River and Erwin, Tennessee last Friday. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that have been devastated by this disaster.
We had a dream and a vision 10 years ago and I had never felt so driven towards something in my life. Brannon and I decided to put everything we had into this decision. 10 years later, we had created that vision and woke up every day to the reality of Blue Ridge Paddling in Erwin, Tennessee. BRP became more than anything I could have ever imagined. It was not just a rafting company. It was a Community, a Family, a Fellowship. I am so grateful for the relationships we created, the experiences we shared with thousands of people, and all the memories that were created. The hard part is that I can’t imagine not doing this the rest of my life.
On Friday we worked until the last possible minute to save some items such as rafts and vehicles as the water quickly rose and overtook both buildings. I never thought about any personal belongings in the main building as I did not think the water would ever reach that high. I was wrong. I arrived on site at 7 am on Saturday and we slowly walked around the “new” river bed of the storm behind the building but I couldn’t do anything. I then realized I had lost everything and the only personal belongings I had left were my vehicle and what I was wearing. I stood in emotional shock staring at the structure as a gentlemen walked behind me and mumbled “ I sure hope those people can rebuild this place so we can come back one day”. I teared up in fear that it wasn’t possible. My personal items are replaceable and I’m extremely grateful to be alive along with Jeremy and the 15 others that stayed until the last minute.
We don’t know what the immediate next steps are for BRP but we do know the long-term goal is to try our best to rebuild and overcome and once again provide a service to our community and beyond. Hundreds of friends and family across the country have requested a go fund me link for BRP. If you feel inclined to assist, we will be forever grateful.
