Rescued Magpie needs amputation & winter recovery.
Donation protected
My name is Tamara, and I recently rescued a severely injured Magpie. His name is Master Ping Xiao Po!
I watched Master Po struggle for 2 days as his mate brought him food, and he tried desperately to fly. The thought of him dying slowly or being eaten by the neighbourhood cats was something I didn't want to witness. Once I picked him up, his life was my responsibility. I was taught that all life, in whatever form, is important and should be respected and cared for.
Master Po has 3 fractures in his left femur, which is pushing into his abdomen and requires to be amputated. This surgery will be very costly (a minimum of 700 CAD) and is scheduled within the next 2 weeks. Po also has an injured wing which he is recovering from. The veterinarian informed me that magpies adjust exceptionally well to amputations, and, once he is healed, he can be released back into the wild in the spring.
All donations will go toward Po's medical expenses, including X-rays, check-ups, surgery, antibiotics, food (Big Boy consumes 224CAD worth of worms per month), and eventually, when he begins to recover, a larger upright cage for him to spend the winter in. He will need care until spring because I reside in northern British Columbia, where the winters are extremely harsh.
Please help me give Master Po the best possible care as there are no rehabilitation sanctuaries that take corvids (ravens, crows, magpies). I would appreciate any help you can give.
Note: The pictures show Po's X-ray, anesthetic, and checkup cost.
Any leftover funds will be donated to the Fort St. John SPCA with a receipt to prove it.
He is a wild bird, and he's in pain awaiting surgery, so to avoid stress, I'm not going to be taking very many pictures up close.
