Help Matt Access Life-Saving Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
We need your help to give Matt the chance to beat cancer once and for all. We’ve found a groundbreaking FDA-approved treatment—Verthermia®, a whole-body hyperthermic therapy with incredible potential. However, insurance won’t cover the cost, and we must raise $150,000 by February 10 to move forward with the procedure at the end of the month. We are filled with hope, knowing this treatment could be life-changing, but we can’t do it alone. Your support—whether through a donation or sharing his story below—can bring us one step closer to helping Matt win this fight.
Matt's Story
In October 2020, Matt was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer. As a family, we faced the news with hope, knowing that Matt's strength and determination would lead him to remission. After a challenging year of chemoradiation, multiple surgeries, and more chemotherapy, Matt was declared cancer-free.
However, just one year later, Matt’s blood cancer markers began to rise, even though CT scans showed no signs of tumors. We knew the cancer was reappearing, but the location was a mystery. In the spring of 2024, a CT scan revealed a significant tumor in his liver —a tumor that had gone undetected the previous year. The cancer had progressed to Stage 4. After consulting numerous specialists, surgery was recommended as the best course of action. In July 2024, Matt underwent a successful liver resection at UW with clear margins, and we were overjoyed.
Unfortunately, a follow-up MRI just months later revealed two new tumors. Again, we sought advice from surgeons and oncologists and decided on a dual approach: ablation surgery at UW followed by DEB-TAZ (localized chemotherapy) at a center in Arizona.
In November 2024, during his surgery at UW, additional tumors were discovered, causing the surgical team to abort the procedure. The surgeon believed that treating those tumors could promote the growth of others. Despite this setback, Matt still traveled to Arizona for the localized chemotherapy, hoping it would slow the tumors' growth.
The latest news in January 2025 indicated that the localized chemotherapy had not provided the hoped-for results. But despite this, we remain filled with HOPE! We recently met with a surgeon who has spent the last 30 years developing a revolutionary therapy. This new treatment, called Verthermia®, has received FDA approval and is now being used for patients with specific cancers—including colon cancer. However, because it’s so new, insurance companies still classify it as “experimental,” meaning they won’t cover the cost. The treatment itself comes with a hefty price tag—$150,000.
So, what is this treatment that gives us so much HOPE? It’s called Verthermia® and utilizes Hyperthermic Extracorporeal Applied Tumor Therapy (HEATT®), a patented whole-body hyperthermic therapy. The American Cancer Society has long recognized the benefits of heat in fighting cancer and other diseases, and Verthermia® harnesses this science to help destroy tumors. Not only is this therapy potentially life-changing for Matt, but it’s also unlocking new possibilities for cancer treatment globally.
Together, Matt and Beth feel hopeful about this next step. Depending on their fundraising efforts, the treatment will take place in Dallas, TX, and they hope to schedule the procedure for late February.
Our main goal is to raise the necessary funds for Matt’s procedure. There is so much hope, but the road ahead will be long, requiring the best therapies and facilities to support Matt's fight.
