Help Matt beat ulcerative colitis

Thank you, friends and family, for being here.

My brother, Matt, has been battling severe ulcerative colitis for the past two years. None of the medications tried have been successful so far. Matt has lost over 40 lbs, has needed several blood transfusions, and struggles with edema that makes it difficult for him to move around or have enough energy and strength for daily tasks. He needs to use the bathroom up to thirty times daily which causes him to only get a few hours of sleep at night, and he's dangerously immunocompromised. All of this has made it virtually impossible for him to work, and the jobs he has tried to take a shot at (in remote sales) haven't yielded success. He has pushed on and been doing his best to support his 10-year-old son through these incredibly challenging life circumstances.

We recently found out that the disability benefits Matt has been waiting for for over a year were denied. This claim being approved was going to be the news he needed to keep his apartment (which he and my nephew only just moved to last fall) and pay off the debts he has acquired from trying to survive on no income for the past year while fighting off accumulating hospital bills.  It was also going to make a potentially life-saving surgery possible. Now, he is trying to figure out the next steps to keep on fighting.

Matt's disability claim case may go before a judge, but that could take another six months or more.  In the meantime, he will lose his beloved apartment, he and my nephew will be forced to uproot for the second time in nine months, and I will be trying my best to help support them at my home while in between jobs myself.

It would mean the absolute world to me if you would make a donation and share this page with anyone you know who may understand the horrifying reality of our government's policies on its less fortunate citizens. When he was healthy, my brother was a machine who could run a restaurant, deadlift 500lbs, and raise his amazing kid with a smile on his face. I just want my brother to have his life back.  I want that for him and for my nephew, Harlan.  I love my family more than anything, and I believe they deserve a chance at an enjoyable life.

Thank you so much for taking the time to hear a part of our story. We are strengthened by community, and we all are extremely grateful for your support.

Wishing good health and lighter loads to you and your loved ones,

Eria
