Help Matt Heal Himself and his VW
Donation protected
Hey friends, Serena, here, of @cactuscloudsart. Did you know that the local VW legend, Matt Rios of @BusTrekkin is my brother? It’s true. And I have watched his love for vintage VW’s grow since childhood. I remember his very first beetle, a squashy little plushy he named “Beeper.” I also remember his first real VW, the one after that, and the one after that.
I’m writing this right now, because Matt was hit by a car in his bus on Monday (November 1st), and it was not cute, friends. Not cute at all. Matt was not seriously injured, but is in pain, and unable to work his very physical job while he heals. So, not only is Matt in need of some routine care for his physical recovery, he is also looking at his upcoming bills wondering how he is going to make it work. On top of all of that, Matt’s VW bus is his daily driver, and in desperate need of repair.
We all know that Matt has the skills and ability to get his VW back on the road, but he needs your help. When I showed my children the video of Uncle Matt’s bus on it’s side, slowly being lifted back up, then crashing back down onto four wheels, my 7-year-old was speechless. When I looked into her eyes, they were spilling over with tears. She couldn’t take her eyes away from that video, playing and replaying. I told her, “Uncle Matt is alright. He’s a little hurt, but he’s going to be okay.” And she said to me, “But his bus. His bus is so special to him.” Then this little girl, weeping, looked me in the eye and said, “I’m going to get him $1,000. I’m going to make a plan, and I’m going to get him $1,000 so he can fix his bus.”
Well, friends, my kid, with her broken little heart, and her immediate compassion and call to action moved me in some big ways. So, let’s do this. Think of every time Matt inspired you, taught you something new, or helped you solve a problem, and share that story, with this GoFundMe link attached. Let’s share some light, and some dollars, and help our brother out!
From Matt: “My bus has been a conduit of joy, adventure and experience. It has connected me with so many people. In the end, it is just a machine, but it has been a lightning rod for opportunity in my life. It was my home for 3.5 years. I can repair it, but I’m also really concerned about how to get by from here.”
