Matt & Joanna Pace Are Adopting!
Donation protected
We are so excited to share that Matt and Joanna Pace have been matched to adopt again! A beautiful baby boy is due on August 3rd, and his incredible mom is planning on placing him with Matt and Joanna.
Joanna is a passionate 2nd-grade teacher and Matt is a gifted musician. A year after they got married, Joanna’s Crohn’s disease took a turn for the worse. Two abdominal surgeries, an ostomy, and one less ovary later, she was told that she should have no issues having children. Years went by, however, and life experiences have proven otherwise. Even with many rounds of infertility treatments, hoped-for children did not come. Five years ago, however, they were miraculously blessed to adopt a son and learned the joy of an open adoption (where the birth mother, child, and adoptive parents maintain a relationship).
Over the last few years, Matt and Joanna have worked to grow their family again: They pursued private adoption as well as another round of infertility treatments. After saving up for and undergoing multiple rounds of IVF, they finally had success—their first pregnancy after 10 long years! When they went to the second appointment this past summer, however, their precious miracle baby had no heartbeat.
Then, a few weeks ago, their social worker approached them with a potential adoption from an agency. As they looked over the details, they felt drawn to the opportunity and submitted themselves for consideration. Talking with the incredible expectant mother, they not only felt a bond but also a trust and an openness in their shared goals for this little boy: Both wanted to navigate an open adoption, build strong birth family relationships, and even work together to find the perfect name. In what was a wonderful moment, she asked Matt and Joanna to be his parents.
Matt and Joanna, in unwavering hope of growing their family, have continually set aside money for fertility treatments and the many, many costs that are attached to adoption. In fact, last year they spent $20,000 in IVF costs alone. Agency fees for this adoption will total $39,000—$22,000 for the match fee and $17,000 for the placement fee. Fees for adoption through a licensed and accredited agency cover legal costs, social workers, paperwork, counseling services for the birth mother, and the birth mother’s post-pregnancy needs.
While they busily apply for grants and deplete any remaining savings, we want to organize this fund to show that communities can help in a time of need. Instead of gifts for their little baby boy, please consider donating whatever you can to help them cover the cost of the adoption. If we could raise even half of the costs, that would significantly ease the financial strain on this amazing and deserving couple.
Thank you!!!
