Help Matthew Smith Beat Cancer!

Hello everyone. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for considering a donation. My name is Matthew Smith, I am 35 years old, and I live in Des Moines, Iowa. In early 2020, I got some unfortunate news regarding my health. In late February, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which is a cancer of the blood/lymphatic system. Then in March, I was also diagnosed with stage 1 renal cancer (kidney cancer). Both of these came as a complete shock, as I had never had a serious health issue in my life up until this point. I have a long road ahead of me in this fight, including 6 months of chemotherapy, and kidney surgery. My doctors are optimistic that I have a very good chance at making a full recovery, and that helps keep me in a positive frame of mind. I am staying focused right now on keeping myself healthy, maintaining a proper diet, exercising when I can, and pushing through this. Then there are of course the expenses that come along with something like this. Fortunately, my health insurance will be covering the lion’s share of these medical costs. For that I am grateful. But I am still left with 5 figures worth of hospital bills, and other costs that have incurred (and have yet to incur), such as surgery, prescriptions, copays,  appointments at other facilities such as a fertility clinic, radiologist, etc. I’m also not able to work throughout the course of my chemo treatment, which results in a loss of wages for me. Fortunately, I’ve been able to get unemployment benefits.  But that still leaves me with about a 25% decrease in income every week. This is a trying time for me in several ways, and as I have incurred this new debt, and am unable to work for the next 6 months, this is truly a time in my life where I could really use financial assistance.
