Help Maya’s family survive and evacuate from Gaza

Hi, my name is Amela Gunther and I am from Orange County, California. I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Maya Zead who is currently in Rafah, Gaza. 

Our goal is to collect sufficient funds that would allow Maya and her family to safely evacuate from Gaza and rebuild their lives.

Maya’s message is below.

My name is Maya Zead and I am a 19-year-old Gazan girl currently internally displaced in Rafah with my mom (Nesma), dad (Zead) and four younger siblings, - Ashraf (16), Saad (14), Hamdy (9) and my baby sister Zinab (4). Our home is in unlivable condition due to bombing and I and my family currently live in an improvised tent with minimal resources and in constant fear of being killed. My mom has a heart condition and is currently without any medications. My family is the only thing I have left and our only hope is to evacuate to Egypt as soon as possible where we can secure our safety and medical treatment for my mom. 

 

However, I have learned that our lifes have a price,- the money which my family doesn’t have.

 

I cannot do this alone, and as much as it is difficult and hard for me to write this, I have no other option than to ask for your help.

 

Before October last year I was just a 19-year-old medical student from Al-Azhar University in Gaza. I have always been a diligent student who excelled in every aspect of my education, for which I was consistently praised and appreciated. I always wanted to become a doctor and help people. I completed my first year of medical school and then everything I knew and hoped for turned upside down. Now I just want to survive and my mom, dad and my siblings to live.

 

The funds collected will be used to obtain paperwork and payment to Egyptians for crossing of the seven people, securing documentation for residency and work permits for my parents in Egypt, the rent of small apartment in Egypt, food, and for the medical treatment for my mom and siblings affected by the war. I also hope to be able to continue my studies and support my immediate family and relatives in Gaza that are left behind.
