Growing up in Al-Aroub Refugee Camp, surrounded by hardship yet filled with resilience, I’ve always believed in the power of perseverance. My name is Ahmad Titi, and this is my story—a journey shaped by struggle, determination, and an unshakable hope for a brighter future.
I was born in Bethlehem, Palestine, and spent my entire life in Al-Aroub Refugee Camp. Life in the camp, surrounded by military checkpoints and the ever-present danger of raids, was never easy. Yet, it shaped my resilience and gave me a unique perspective on life. I attended an UNRWA school until the 9th grade and then moved to a governmental school, where I chose the scientific branch. In 2018, I graduated high school with a 91.7% average—an achievement I remain proud of.
From a young age, I was captivated by computers. My fascination began at the age of 10 when I received my first computer. It wasn’t just a machine; it was an escape and a gateway to learning. I spent hours tinkering with it, teaching myself how it worked, and developing a passion for technology that eventually led me to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering. On January 4, 2023, I graduated with a degree in a field I love.
However, the journey wasn’t smooth. In my third year of university, I nearly gave up, overwhelmed by the challenges and the fear of an uncertain future. I knew many graduates ended up in jobs unrelated to their studies, and I worried I would face the same fate. Unfortunately, that became my reality after graduation.
In Palestine, job opportunities are scarce, especially for fresh graduates without experience. Despite countless applications, I faced rejection after rejection. There were no internships, no training programs—just closed doors. It was disheartening, but it made me realize I needed to make a significant change. That’s when I decided to pursue my dreams abroad.
Germany became my destination of choice for postgraduate education. Its strong academic programs, opportunities to work while studying, and the chance to be closer to my brother made it the perfect fit. I started learning German in early 2023. Despite financial challenges and even working in construction to fund my language courses, I passed the Goethe B1 exam in June 2024.
Living in a refugee camp profoundly shaped who I am. As a child, I found joy in playing with friends despite the ever-present danger. I broke my left hand once and my left leg twice while playing in the narrow streets of the camp. Yet, the constant raids and blockades instilled in me a desire for freedom and peace. The recent closure of our camp by gates reinforced my determination to break free from these limitations and pursue a future where I can thrive.
Amid these challenges, I found purpose working at the Center for Freedom and Justice (CFJ), an NGO focused on helping marginalized communities. Although the job wasn’t related to my degree, it brought immense satisfaction. I’ve always loved helping others; as a child, I was known for fixing my neighbors' computers and phones without expecting anything in return. At CFJ, I’ve expanded that desire to make a difference, working on relief projects that bring hope to those in need.
Despite the hardships, I remain determined. I dream of completing my education in Germany, gaining valuable work experience, and using my skills to make a positive impact—whether in IT or through humanitarian efforts. My ultimate goal is to live in peace and continue helping others wherever I am.
Why I’m Fundraising?
Pursuing a study visa in Germany requires a blocked bank account with a minimum balance of €11,904 (subject to change). Over the past year and a half, I’ve managed to save €4,000 through determination and hard work, despite the challenges of limited job opportunities and currency differences. However, time is running short. After consulting with friends, I decided to start this fundraiser to reach my goal.
The target is €8,000 to meet the required balance. If your generosity exceeds this amount, every additional euro will go towards charitable initiatives at the NGO where I work, ensuring your kindness continues to make a difference.
Your support doesn’t just help me achieve my dream of studying in Germany—it helps me break the cycle of limitations faced by refugees like me. Every contribution brings me closer to gaining the education and experience I need to give back to my community and help others find hope in impossible circumstances.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for your continued support—it truly means the world to me. If you can’t contribute financially, I would deeply appreciate it if you could share my story with others who might be able to help. Together, we can prove that even from the most challenging circumstances, resilience and kindness can light the way to a brighter future.
PS: I want to clarify that this fundraiser is organized entirely on my behalf for my own self. My brother, Ibrahim Titi, is only assisting me by helping transfer the funds.
Peace ♥
