Help Us Pay for IVF
Hi my name is Erica. I am married to an active duty military member. We have a beautiful 9yr old daughter and have been trying to expand our family for the last 6 years. In 2019 I was diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroidism. After taking some medication we got pregnant. Unfortunately the pregnancy was ectopic, our luck as the type of ectopic pregnancy I had was only a 2% chance of anyone having. I went into the hospital thinking I was going to have my first ultrasound only to be told it was a cornual ectopic pregnancy and because the fetus still had a heartbeat I would have to have surgery right away. The drs ended up having to remove the fetus, my right Fallopian tube and part of the right uterine muscle. Since the surgery I haven’t been able to get pregnant again and was told I would need to proceed with IVF if I wanted to get pregnant. Well the military “Tricare” doesn’t cover IVF as it isn’t considered a medical necessity and someone even joked with me saying “ the military would assign you a family if they wanted you to have one”. It’s heart wrenching to think insurance categorizes ivf with cosmetic surgery and deem it not necessary. IVF would cost me $20,000 at a civilian clinic and we don’t have that kind of money. The military has one hospital that practices IVF treatment but again insurance won’t pay for it but since it is a teaching hospital I’ll be paying $5,817. It is financially draining as well as emotionally but we are determined to expand our family. We are asking for any help you can give even if it’s just a prayer. Thank you in advance
