Help me celebrate becoming a new Zoo Docent!
Tax deductible
I have just finished my first 6 months as a brand-new Kansas City Zoo Docent. This volunteer opportunity means a lot to me, and I want to celebrate by raising money to benefit Friends of the Zoo of Kansas City Foundation. The goal is $1,909 because the zoo officially opened in 1909. I will be donating the money that I raise here through GoFundMe to the Foundation.
The Kansas City Zoo takes care of over 1,700 animals and requires around $50,000 per day to operate. Your donation will support ongoing education, conservation, animal care programs and help meet the Zoo’s most pressing needs. Check out our 2022 year in review:
I'm excited to become a Docent. As someone whose work and hobbies involve a lot of indoor and screen time, my visits to the zoo have always been an experience in which I can reset mentally and physically. I’m grateful for the opportunity to roll up my sleeves and give back to and connect with my community as a volunteer in the fresh air, away from screens, and among amazing animals and habitats.
As a Docent, I have the opportunity to share my passion for wildlife and conservation with visitors from all over the world. Kansas City Zoo Docents engage and interact with visitors about the animals and their habitats, as well as share and promote information about conservation, the natural world, and its diversity. The program has been around since 1969 and has grown to include 200+ volunteers who collectively contribute 30,000+ hours of service each year.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged and supported me, and everyone donating to make an impact!
