Help Me Connect at T1D Camp
Tax deductible
Thank you so much for sending me to camp last summer!
Something I will never forget from T1D camp was when the girls in my cabin and I would stay up late at night talking and would always have to pass around the bottle of glucose tablets at one point. All of our blood sugars would drop low at the same time at night. It happened so often that it became almost a late-night snack routine to pass around the bottle of glucose tablets as we talked about the symptoms we each get when our blood sugars drop low. This was so fun because I didn’t have to explain to anyone that having to eat these fruit flavored sugar tablets was not a treat, it’s a curse that we all were beyond annoyed with. I’m so excited to go back to camp because it’s the one week out of the year when having diabetes can be fun! In fact, this camp experience means so much to me that I look forward to returning as a camp counselor when I am older so I can help encourage younger type 1 diabetics and give them an incredible camp experience.
Want to impact my life in a significant way?
I'm raising money again to attend a type 1 diabetes camp for a week this summer in the mountains of California, where I will have the opportunity to connect with other teenagers like me who know the day-in and day-out struggles of being a type 1 diabetic. Any donation will help! Thanks in advance for your contribution. It means so much to me!
Why do I want to attend this camp?
I am sixteen years old. When I was nine years old I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I need to take insulin through an insulin pump throughout the day and monitor my blood sugar to make sure it's not too high or too low. It can feel very lonely at times to not have any friends that can relate with me and my type 1 diabetes. And unlike type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes can never go away, no matter how healthy I eat and exercise.
A couple years ago my diabetes doctor told me about Camp Conrad Chinnock, a camp especially for families and teenagers with type 1 diabetes. In fact, if you do NOT have diabetes and aren't related to a diabetic, you are not allowed to attend! Many endocrinologists from the area volunteer their time to work at this camp each summer. These kind doctors will be there to care for and instruct the campers, making this camp a safe summer camp option for diabetics who can't care for their diabetes on their own. Spending another week at this camp would be a dream come true!
How will the funds be used?
All funds raised will go toward camp registration. If I exceed my fundraising goal, the camp will apply excess funds to my registration fee for next year.
(All donations go directly to Camp Conrad Chinnock.)
