Help me fund a service dog not covered by insurer
Donation protected
Hi My name is Flor I was born with a chronic illness called Sickle Cell Disease. Sickle Cell affects my life in so many ways. Sickle Cell is an inherited blood disorder that effects my red blood cells blocking oxygen to my major organs and brain. Eventually this causes organ failure and death. I have chronic pain in my bones and joints. The older I get the more debilitating this disease gets. I’ve had multiple surgeries since the age of 3. I’m in and out of the hospital for pain control or for special procedures. I get blood transfusions every 4 weeks to keep my organs alive longer. I also was recently diagnosed with Pulmonary hypertension and require oxygen. This is just another effect of Sickle Cell taking a toll on my body. I have a intrathecal pump that connects to my spine that helps me with pain control. I can write a book on the many things that have happened and the things that I go through everyday to try and survive this awful disease. As my body gets older it’s getting tired and this is the purpose why I’m here today. As hard as it is for me to put my pride aside and ask for help I will do it. I’m here because I’m fundraising for a service dog for myself. Basket of paws is a non profit organization that has a perfect service dog for me. However these dogs are highly trained and very expensive. They are considered a medical equipment but unfortunately insurance does not cover their cost. I am willing to pay some of the cost but these dogs can be very expensive and I will also need to fly and pick her up which is another expense. I spoke to Basket of Paws and they told me she is really smart and will do anything for a snack lol she is 1 1/2 and I will post a picture as soon as get it. I believe having a service dog will be good for me emotional and physically. The service dog will be able to obtain my medication, hold my oxygen tank, alert me when my oxygen is low, open doors etc just a few things out of many more that a service dog would benefit me. The older I get the more this disease will progress and I need to be here for my three children. Having a service dog as a lifeline will help me immensely. It took a lot for me to post this so if you find it in your heart to donate I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
