Help me get a limb and reclaim my dream

Hello everyone,

My name is Hazem Solaiman, and I am reaching out to you today to share my story and ask for your support in my journey towards reclaiming my dreams and embracing my disability.

In July 3, 2018, while covering protests in Gaza as a photo journalist, I was injured, and the aftermath of that day changed the course of my life forever. Photography was not just a passion for me; it was my dream, my calling. But that dream was abruptly taken away when I lost a limb due to the injuries sustained during those protests.

Being the only child of my mother and the pillar of my family since my father's passing in 2008, the burden of responsibility weighed heavily on my shoulders. Despite the challenges, I refused to let go of my aspirations. For months, I resisted the idea of amputation, hoping against hope that I could salvage what remained of my leg.

However, fate had other plans. The infection and gangrene that plagued my leg left me with no choice but to undergo amputation for one of my legs and for my knee. It felt like my world was crumbling, my dreams shattered into a million pieces. But even in the darkest of moments, a glimmer of hope emerged.

Today, I stand before you with renewed determination and a burning desire to rebuild my life. I refuse to let my disability define me or limit my potential. I want to reclaim my passion for photography and become the successful photographer I've always dreamed of being. I want to be a source of strength and inspiration not only for myself but also for my beloved mother.
