Help me get back on two feet. (Need Prosthetic)
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Christopher Burgoon. I have been an amputee my whole life. Five years ago, I became an above the knee amputee. This was necessary because I have always worked on my feet which caused my stump to deteriorate. Recently, my prosthetic leg broke. I came home from work and duct taped it together to get back to work. The next day the fiberglass broke beyond repair and became impossible to wear. This happened on June 28th and I have been on crutches since then. I just got on FMLA to keep my bills paid. I am a lead at a manufacturing company and spend much of my day walking.
Because I was worried about my leg wearing down, I have stopped doing hobbies that I love such as hiking, biking, camping, ect. When wearing the traditional old style (fiberglass) I would often develop painful infections from overheating which would cause me to miss work and occasionally require hospitalization depending on severity. Since I am in immediate need of a new prosthetic and tired of the traditional leg limiting my abilities. I did some research on the types of technology available for me now.
We came across Martin Bionics in Oklahoma City. They have a light weight socketless socket that will change my life I am sure of it. The great thing about it is that it’s basically the same price as the traditional. It is way more comfortable and better-quality. This leg will enable me to drive comfortably, walk with less worry and start living my life with less stress. The new style socket is adjustable which will let me change the size if my weight fluctuates. The problem is we have recently learned that it is going to cost a lot more than we have set aside. We do have some money saved for this type of emergency, but we are going to need some assistance.
If you know me you know I am a hard worker and dislike having to ask for help. I have never been one to ask for handouts and honestly, I can’t believe I am putting this out there but if you can, please help me get a new leg so I can get back to work and back to life as soon as possible.
