Help me get into competitive power soccer
Donation protected
My name is Eduardo Castillo, and I have spinal muscular atrophy type 2. It is a degenerative disease, and I use a wheelchair full-time for mobility.
When I moved to San Antonio three years ago, I discovered power soccer. It is an adapted version of soccer where people with disabilities play in specially designed wheelchairs.
Right now, I am borrowing a modified wheelchair that works fine for casual play, but for me to play competitively on a professional level, I need a strike force chair designed for power soccer. On the weekend of November 3rd, 2022, I went to Houston for a power soccer tournament with teams from Mexico and Texas. I played in my modified chair, and while it was a positive experience all around, It made me realize how much I need a strikeforce more than any other time I've played power soccer. Strikeforces are standard equipment for all international players and will put me on the same level as every other player in the league.
The strikeforce chair is low to the ground, making it safe, and has a guard designed to get the most power out of each hit to the ball, with tight turns and high speed. The chair is about $10,000, not counting some necessary customizations.
I aspire to play power soccer competitively and even make it to the US power soccer team at some point, but to do so, I need this chair. It is not deemed medically necessary, so all the funds must come out of our pockets.
My initial goal is to get the funds to buy a chair for myself, but eventually, I would like to raise money to help cover travel costs, or even purchase chairs for some of my other teammates who cannot afford them.
I am very grateful for any donations you can provide, any amount counts and is very appreciated. Additionally, if you know anyone who could help bring more funds or even sponsor our team, that would be a massive step forward for all of us.
