Help Me Get My Daughter Back to the U.S.

In November 2019, while I was in France completing my PhD, Ophelia’s father, Olivier, sued me for joint custody of Ophelia. Olivier has been absent from Ophelia’s life since shortly after Ophelia’s birth in France 6 years ago. I have been solely responsible for her care, living as a single mother while pursuing a graduate degree at Tulane University in New Orleans. Olivier waited until I was back in France for a semester of graduate work and filed suit. I was forced to pay an attorney and was awaiting the judge’s decision when coronavirus arrived. My case has been delayed indefinitely, and I’m prohibited to remove Ophelia from France until the case is settled. Because I planned to be back in New Orleans this semester, I’m still paying rent on my place there. I have no source of income in France, and my funding source from Tulane has been eliminated due to university budget cuts. Although Olivier has sued for joint custody, he has never provided and is still not providing support at this time. Ophelia and I are in financial distress.
