Help me escape my black mold infested apartment!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ben, and I am alone in an apartment that has become a nightmare.

My water heater went out two months ago, and all of the water went into floor because there was no drain installed. You could feel the closet and bathroom floor heating up where the water was trapped. When they removed the old heater, I saw a carpet of black mold infesting the wall behind it. I killed what was visible, but there must have been more inside the wall, because it spread into the floor where the water was. The smell has been growing ever since, and my persistent health issues - which I thought were from chronic Lyme disease, but were probably from the mold behind the heater - are getting worse and worse. I feel random sharp pains in my body, and I wake up tired, no matter how much sleep I get. I have trouble thinking and concentrating at work, and the other day I kept stopping mid-sentence with my coworkers, trying to remember what I was even saying. It was embarrasing. Every day, when I enter my apartment after work, I feel nauseous, ill, and shaky. This past weekend I had to wear a kn95 mask, in my apartment, anytime I wasn't in front of a window with a fan blowing fresh air right over me. I'm also getting a cough and lung congestion, and I'm seriously worried about my long term cognitive and physical health.

I can't get apartment management to address the issue. There isn't even an onsite manager or maintenance right now, they've all quit. I'm looking into legal options, but there are no laws on black mold and habitability in my state, and I don't have money for a lawyer. I called the health department, but they didn't take me seriously, and I'll be surprised if they send anyone out to test the air, so it might be impossible to prove anything legally anyway. I am so frustrated that I can't find anybody willing to help me! I'm stuck in a lease until the end of December, and my best bet now is to buy myself out, but I don't have the funds. In the last four months I've had two car repairs, and missed a bunch of work from getting Covid, waiting around at home multiple days for the water heater replacement, and because the toxic air in my apartment has left me so ill some days, I haven't been able to get out of bed. The apartment management also sat on a rent check from earlier this year, and I didn't catch it. They double cashed checks in June. Normally I have savings and backup funding options, but they have all been exhausted at this point.

I need $1600 by next Friday (9/29) to buy out of my lease, or I'll have to pay another full month's rent. I also will need about $2400 for rent and deposit for my new apartment, and moving costs. Anything extra will go back here on GoFundMe. I appreciate any help you can give me! Once I'm back on my feet, I will pay this forward!
