Hi. My name is Jim Southworth, and I am an attorney from Pittsburgh, Pa. I am using my legal license to help bring an Afghani family to safety. I can't tell you their name or show you their faces or tell you too much about their story. That could create danger for them. But I can tell you that they are in danger. Every day. The family consists of grandma, mom and dad, three daughters and two sons. Let me tell you a little bit about the daughters. They are community leaders. They worked with World Vision. The oldest daughter worked at a news agency. They worked with community organizations helping people who were displaced by the violence in their country. Because of the bravery of these young ladies, the whole family is now targeted by the Taliban. It is not good to be an educated female leader when the Taliban are in control. One of the daughters has already been "detained" by the Taliban in a cargo box. The elders of the community convinced the Taliban to let her go, but for how long? Family members have had rocks thrown at them when they go out. They are literally living in fear day by day. But we can help. I am filing the paperwork to bring them to the United States via a program called Humanitarian Parole. Each one of the family members needs to pay a $550 filing fee. I could ask the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to waive the filing fees. But if I do, it will slow the application process down, perhaps by months. This family doesn't have months. So I am asking you to help me pay the filing fees so we can get them out of danger NOW. Please help me help them by giving what you can to bring this family to safety.
