Help Me Give My Mother A Proper Funeral Service

Dear Friends and Community,

My name is Alecia, and I am reaching out to you on behalf of my mother-in-law, Kayon Spence, during this incredibly difficult time.

This morning, we suffered the loss of her beloved mother, Bernice Willie. Bernice was a remarkable woman—loving, strong, and filled with a unique sense of humor. She was a devoted mother to seven children, of whom only Kayon remains.

Kayon and her son, Lovan, embarked on a challenging journey from Jamaica to Canada in search of a better life. Despite the difficulties of settling in a new country and navigating the current economic climate, every spare dollar was sent back home to support Bernice, affectionately known as Mama.

As her children migrated, Mama's health and spirit began to decline, compounded by the deep sorrow of missing her loved ones. This led to struggles with depression and illness. Kayon and Lovan worked tirelessly to provide for themselves while also sending what little they could back home. They dreamed of bringing Mama to Canada for better healthcare and a brighter future together.

Throughout Kayon's time in Canada, she faced the heartbreaking necessity of returning to Jamaica to care for her ailing mother, often at the expense of her own job security and financial stability. Unfortunately, despite having family in Jamaica, she found herself carrying the weight of these challenges alone.

With Mama's unexpected passing, Kayon now faces the emotional and financial burden of planning her funeral, alongside the costs of rent and travel for herself and Lovan to navigate this profound loss.

We kindly ask for your support during this trying time. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and will help ease the financial pressures Kayon is facing as well as pay for an autopsy as Kayon feels that her death was due to negligence as well.
