Help me help Larry

This is my coworker Larry. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside him at Starbucks for nearly a year, and in that time, he has become the heart and soul of our store. To me, and to so many of us, he’s like a grandfather — a constant source of warmth, wisdom, and quiet strength. Our customers feel it too; Larry’s kindness leaves a mark on everyone he meets.

Larry is one of the most hardworking and selfless people I’ve ever known. For most of his life, he devoted himself to caring for his mother, who was his only family. Since her passing a few years ago, he’s continued working tirelessly to stay afloat, often sharing how anxious he feels each month about making rent.

Last summer, he moved into a new rental home, but just a few months later — in October — he came home from work to find he had been robbed of nearly everything. Out of fear, he broke his lease and began looking for a safer place to live.

Recently, in an effort to make ends meet, Larry has been preparing for a yard sale — something he’s spent weeks organizing. He had been keeping many of the items in his backyard. But this past weekend, his neighbor’s Ring camera captured someone entering his yard in the early morning hours and stealing the very furniture and belongings Larry planned to sell.

The footage shows the person driving up to commit the theft, but unfortunately, the license plate isn’t clear enough for the police to act on.

It breaks my heart. Larry works from 3:30 a.m. until close — often as late as 9 or 9:30 p.m. — nearly every single day. He should not have to live in fear, or struggle month after month just to get by. He’s given so much of himself to his family, to his coworkers, and to our community.

If you feel moved to help, even the smallest contribution could lift a bit of the burden Larry carries. Let’s show him he’s not alone — that there is still kindness and care in the world, just like the kind he shows us every day.
