Help Me Honour My Brother's Legacy: Help Me Bring His Comic Book Hero to Life!

Hello everyone, I'm Jason. Recently, I lost my older brother unexpectedly, he was just 43 years old. He was not just a brother, but also a loving father, son and a passionate basketball coach.

As he was 8 years older than me, growing up as a child he also introduced me to many of my current passions as I would often watch, listen and insist on doing what he was doing. Be this collecting and reading comic books, watching sci-fi/action/horror movies, playing video games, creative writing or learning all about computers. In many ways, I owe him for the interests and life long passions that have sparked many unforgettable and enjoyable experiences for me. He even coached my basketball team. Since his passing, I've been reflecting on the impact he had on my life.

My brother was a true creative visionary, particularly when it came to comic books and superheroes. Long before it became mainstream, he immersed himself in that world. He shared this world with me, through drawing and storytelling.

One memory stood out from my childhood: we sat together in our family lounge room, both drawing whatever came to mind. I was nine years old, I struggled with my drawings compared to his. I was quite upset that I was unable to create characters as easily as him, so he gifted me one of his creations – a character he crafted, a cloaked figure with powers bestowed on the wearer by the cloak itself.

Since his passing, I have been trying to think of a way to honour his memory. I aim to this by bringing his character to life in a comic book. Set in the mid 1990's the main character will be loosely based on my brother as a teenager and his journey after discovering the cloak in an old antique store. From there he finds himself battling the evils of a small town. This project is not just about fulfilling a dream; it's about immortalising my brother as the hero he truly was in my eyes...and never got to tell him.

I'm reaching out for your support to make this dream a reality.

Funds raised will cover:

  • Drawing Materials
  • Printing/Publishing Costs
  • Website/Design and Hosting for Online Sales
  • Hiring Artists to assist me in the design, colouring and layouts
  • Advertising for Sales
  • Copyrighting

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to preserving my brother's legacy. Here are a few examples of price break-downs and where your precious donations will be used:

  • Giving my drawings to an artist to profesionally draw, colour and digitise ready for print will cost around $150 AUD - $175 AUD per page. My story for the first issue is 25 pages.
  • A small advertising budget on Facebook/Instagram will cost $50 AUD per day and I hope to run an advertising campaign for 30 days.
  • Good quality drawing pencils, sketch books and erasers are around $10 AUD - $15 AUD each.
  • Website Domain and Hosting approximately $100 AUD.

If I can sell just one copy of this completed comic book, my brother will live on as the hero he always was, but never knew it. Join me in celebrating his life through the power of storytelling.

Thank you for considering supporting this endeavour. Your generosity means the world to me.

Warm regards, Jason.
