From Patricia Flanagan, mother of Dennis:
At 9:30 pm on January 20, 2006 our family learned that my Dennis
James (DJ) Flanagan died in Iraq. We as a family decided to honor his wishes to teach history, particularly American history, and remember those who answered the call to arms/defense of the United States of America. Do to that we set up The Sgt. Dennis James Flanagan Foundation (SDJFF). SDJFF gave money to scholars to go to the school of their choice, not just college along with assistance to those gave a portion of their life to our military. I am constantly amazed at how many people stepped up and into our dream of the foundation. My family is grateful that we could help so many because so many of you believed our dream was worthwhile. My heart overflows with a mixture of joy and sorrow because of our supporters. Joy because while the foundation lives we can make the difference that DJ might have made if he lived. Sorrow because given the current conditions we feel it would be harmful to invite people to a large gathering indoors which describes our sole annual fundraiser. Sorrow because without the fundraiser the SDJFF foundation will not continue to serve the scholars and veterans as it has done since May 2014. It is time to let go of many dreams for many in our country, including ours.
I would like to ask for your help in keeping Dennis' memory alive.
