Help me meet my Birth mother and Family

Hi,

I'm Kaela Mitchell. I am 30 years old and adopted from South Korea. I have a loving family who has supported and loved me all my life. My mom and I went to South Korea when I was 16 with a group called Korean Ties. I toured my birth country (which is beautiful) and hoped to make a connection with either my foster mother or birth mother. Unfortunately, the agency did not have much info to give me at the time. Korea was operating under closed adoptions which meant that only a birth parent could initiate contact with their adoptive child. About two years ago the laws changed so that adoptees could contact their birth parents. I started a year ago searching for my Korean mother as all my life I have wanted to meet her. With the help of my adoption agency, I was able to locate her! I found out I have two aunts, two uncles, a grandmother and seven cousins. I am wanting very much to go to Korea to meet my Korean family. I am single and working with special needs high school-aged students, a job I love but a job that doesn’t pay enough for me to afford the airfare, accommodations and unexpected expenses.
