Help me on my journey to a new leg

       Hello! My name is Faizal Hamdoon. I was born in Sri Lanka and raised in the United States.  My family and I moved to this country for a very special reason. As a child I was diagnosed with a rare birth defect and bone deformity. With surgery being the only recourse, the lack of scientific medical advancement in my native land compelled my parents to move to the United States so I could receive the best care possible for my condition and have the best chance at leading a healthy and successful life.  

     My childhood and adolescent years were spent in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries. I had no choice but to spend my young life experiencing the burden of living with crutches to get around. By the age of 18, I had undergone eleven years of failed surgical corrections and two amputations. This came  with a lot of hardship and new challenges. Unfortunately, tragedy struck our family again, I lost my father who was the sole breadwinner to an aggressive and inoperable cancer. 

This is why I am here: 
The prosthesis that I currently have has been causing much discomfort and pain. I am working with my medical providers to get a new one. Unfortunately, I was notified that my insurance claim was denied. With the expenses involved with prosthetics, insurance companies are working hard at finding ways to exploit insurance rules just to deny coverage. Fighting them to gain a necessary limb is a difficult challenge. For those of us who live and breathe a healthy, active lifestyle, our passion to flourish and beat the odds are stymied.  I am  hoping to raise $15,000 that I am required to pay for a new limb which will give me the ability to live life to my highest potential whilst continuing to provide for my family.
