Help me raise money for The Shed - Tameside
Everyone who knows me knows I do not do exercise... Which is why you will all be shocked to know that I am running the AJ Bell Great Run (10Km) on Sunday 26th May 2024.
The charity I have decided to fundraise for is the Shed in Tameside. The Shed is a larger version of the typical men’s shed at the bottom of the garden – a place where he feels at home. It offers a safe, friendly and inclusive workshop, where men (and women on Fridays) come together to work on projects for the local community, share ideas and experiences. More importantly, it’s a place where they can make friends and enjoy themselves.
The shed has played a massive role in my families life; My boyfriend's dad (Paul) is one of the most caring people I know, he is a full time carer for his wife and an amazing dad to my boyfriend and has been a great support system for me and my family over the past 6 years.
Sadly, Paul lost his brother 2 years ago, which understandably had an impact on his mental health. As a family we noticed he was not his usual self; It was at a routine hospital appointment for his wife where he expressed his feelings and Tameside hospital referred him to the shed.
The Shed isn't just about dealing with loss though, It's a place where men from all walks of life come together. Some are struggling with mental health, others are living with disabilities—it's a real mix. But what unites them is the sense of support and understanding they find there.
Paul now works at The Shed as a volunteer, helping other men (and women) reclaim their confidence and purpose. It's given lots of men something to look forward to and a supportive environment they can rely on. It also has given my family the peace of mind that he is not bottling up his feelings - which is often the case with men!
The shed could use a helping hand and needs support to keep doing its incredible work. Your donations will make sure it can continue to have this positive impact on the community.
