Help Me Rebuild My Life and Community

My name is Michele Turner and I am a local to Green Mountain, North Carolina.

Thank you all for the donations, both monetary and physical, they will go toward helping those affected by Hurricane Helene.

I will be leaving just past midnight with a car full of tools, food and water, gasoline, a kayak and with any luck a satellite phone.

At this point, the plan is to get as close to Green Mountain, NC via car as possible then hike into town with a group of people who have also volunteered to form a search and rescue. We will also have a kayak to search flooded areas.

The satellite phone will be a blessing because cell service and electricity are down and many families are stranded without being able to let others know they need help.

If you don’t feel comfortable donating to me, please donate to a local and reputable organization, one that directly benefits the locals of Western North Carolina/Eastern Tennessee and the Appalachias.

As most of you know, I recently bought land and moved to the mountains in Western North Carolina. I took everything I owned down and began to build a new home and life with the dogs. Unfortunately, I was in the direct path of both a huge storm which then connected with Hurricane Helene. I was able to quickly evacuate with the dogs just before the flash flooding began and came to St. Louis.

The hurricane has caused unprecedented flooding and devastated everything and everyone in the whole area. I have lost everything I own. As soon as the roads open up, I'm going to try to go back and assess the land, help neighbors, and do whatever I can to help rebuild my life and the surrounding area.

I won't have a signal down there to get ahold of anyone for a few days until I come back. But I will try to update this page often.
