Help me restore 40 homes near Beirut's ground zero
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
My name is Joulan Abdul Khalek. I'm an economist that works for an international organization in Washington, DC and am currently in Beirut, Lebanon my country of origin.
I live in the district (Mar Mikhael, Gemmayze) that was most hardly hit by the tragic August 4 Beirut explosion. The magnitude of destruction is difficult to describe in words.
I’m hoping to raise 40,000 US$ from my immediate friends and family, friends-of-friends and general public to help me cover basic home repair costs for families that are in extreme need.
My Philosophy: I plan to focus on families that are in extreme need i.e. households that are living under extremely difficult economic conditions and have no way to do basic repairs that can help them return home.
Method and material: I plan to focus on bare essentials to make homes livable again. This includes main entrance doors, aluminum windows, glass (or plastic sheets as temporary alternatives where appropriate), in addition to cleaning equipment (i.e. brooms, gloves and environmentally friendly disposable bags).
Cost: I have spoken with people on the ground and we expect 1000 US$ per household on average to be a very decent amount of money in helping restore bare essential and fixtures especially due to the recent hyperinflation that has happened. We plan to target 40 families with 40,000 US$. We will revise this number and possibly expand our target if we are successful in reaching this amount.
How I will operate: I will gather a group of friends and family members, we will select a number of households to assist in coordination with 2 local district mayors (Mokhtar), we will help clean their houses from the wreckage if necessary. And work with local contractors to install all necessary fixtures to make their houses livable again.
Transparency and reporting: All receipts from every single cent spent will be shared on this page. Progress of our work and the logic regarding the selection process of families will be shared on this page and our social media accounts.
I am personally accountable and liable for every cent spent as a part of this campaign.
This is not the time to hesitate. It’s the time to act. Please donate as much as you can. Any amount will go a large way into helping people sleep with dignity in the safety of their own homes and into restoring some sense of peace of mind and security in their hearts.
Thank you and much love from Beirut,
Joulan Abdul Khalek
