✈️ Help Me Soar , India’s First Openly Trans Pilot

Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Adam Harry.

When I came out as transgender at 17, my family disowned me. I am from an orthodox muslim family.

I lost my home, my safety, and my support system overnight.

At the time, I was midway through my Private Pilot training in South Africa. With nowhere to turn, I stayed in Johannesburg and worked every job I could find anything that would keep me flying. In 2018, against all odds, I earned my Private Pilot License.

Soon after, my parents forced me back to India, where I was placed under house arrest and subjected to conversion therapy for a year. I eventually escaped. In 2019, I was awarded a Kerala Government Scholarship, which gave me a second chance at survival and education.

My journey is now being documented in a feature length film by my chosen brother and co-organiser of this campaign, Neelu Bhuman, who has stood by me when my own family could not.

Through his support, I was registered for an annual membership with the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA), which led to three Delta Air Lines scholarships $5,000 USD each year since 2023. These funds quite literally gave me new life, new hope, and the ability to continue training.

While in India, I also used my voice to push the country’s civil aviation authority to recognize trans pilots. Because of sustained advocacy, India’s DGCA introduced aeromedical guidelines for transgender pilots in 2023, opening doors that had never existed before.

But for my own safety, I had to leave the country I love.

I never gave up.

Today, I’m 26 years old and studying aviation in Australia. I’ve completed the first year of my Diploma and am now continuing toward a Bachelor’s in Aviation, while simultaneously training for my Commercial Pilot License (CPL).

I am four semesters away from becoming the first openly transgender pilot of Indian origin to fly professionally.

Under the strict limitations of my Australian student visa, I am allowed to work only a fixed number of paid hours each week. I currently work as a car detailer and an Uber delivery driver, which helps me cover my rent, living expenses, and one course per semester. Through this work, I am raising AUD 16,000 on my own. As an immigrant, I have applied for multiple university scholarships and received none.

That’s the reason I’m asking for help.

What the funds will support:

Commercial Pilot License (CPL): AUD 21,500

Bachelor of Aviation tuition: AUD 64,500

Every dollar raised goes directly toward tuition fees, flight hours, and mandatory certifications.

If I fail to register full-time for any semester, I will lose my visa and be forced to abandon my training. For supporters in Australia, backing someone who is working, studying, and playing by the rules can make the difference between being forced to stop and being able to finish strong.

For supporters in India, even a small contribution or sharing this campaign within your circles helps show that our own communities believe in this dream and are willing to stand behind it.

For supporters in the United States and the United Kingdom, your contribution no matter the amount directly helps me stay enrolled, logged, and flying. If you are an LGBTQ+ ally, an immigrant-rights supporter, or someone who believes education and opportunity should not depend on identity or geography, this is a moment to stand with me. Whether it’s £10, $25, or simply sharing this campaign, your support helps turn survival into a professional future.

I’m not just flying for myself.

I’m flying for every trans person who’s been told they don’t belong.
For every dream that was dismissed as impossible.
For every kid who needs to see that survival can turn into flight.

If you’re able to donate, share, or amplify this campaign, you are helping me to reach the finish line.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and contribution.
