Help me swim from England to France!
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Marissa and I’m a long-distance open-water swimmer. Since I started my journey in open water swimming, I’ve had the dream to one day swim across the English Channel, accomplishing a feat that only a select number of people have been able to accomplish. Usually, it takes three years to put together a swim like this and it comes with a high cost, between booking a boat/captain, putting together a crew to ensure a swimmer has the safest swim possible and actually getting a slot to make the swim. However, I’ve been fortunate enough to receive a slot for the upcoming summer from July 12-19th, which is nothing short of a miracle in itself!
This challenge is not only hard because it’s a 21-mile swim (35kilometers) but it’s in water that is usually in the 50s, or less than 16°c, the tides are challenging, the current switches frequently, the wind, storms, small and large boat traffic, and lots of marine life present This swim is often referred to as “The Mount Everest of Swimming.” I want nothing more in my life than to complete this and I will do whatever it takes. I’ve been training insanely hard to prepare and will continue to work hard. This past week alone, I swam 35 miles!
However, this challenge is very expensive, unfortunately. The boat/captain itself is close to $6000, (£5100) and that doesn’t include the fee for the swim or the person timing/observing for the verification. The funds will solely be used for these purposes, and any remaining fund will go towards flights and accommodations. I’m asking for donations to help me achieve my dream and try to accomplish this once-in-a-lifetime experience that I just cannot let pass me by!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and if you feel like donating, it would be greatly appreciated. Anything helps!
Sincerely, Marissa
Just keep swimming ♀️
