Help me help my Mother through terminal Brain Cancer.
Donation protected
My mother, Katherine, was diagnosed with a high-grade glioma, an inoperable tumor, at the end of February. She was airlifted to Phoenix, AZ, because of the size and aggressive nature of the tumor growing in her critical brain structures. The prognosis was poor, but in an attempt to improve her quality of life, for whatever duration, radiation and chemotherapy were recommended. Her oncology team felt it was better to keep her inpatient for the duration of her treatment, so she spent over a month in the hospital.
I, her youngest son, was named Power Of Attorney for all of my mother's affairs and have been working tirelessly to rectify her health insurance crisis (she canceled and then changed her health plan weeks before this emergency), sort through, move and store her belongings from the home she was being forced out of, rehome her dog, and ensure she was not alone for weeks on end during her treatment. This has resulted in my losing my job working alongside the family who elected me power of attorney and into an even deeper financial crisis.
My partner and I have been living with, financially supporting, and trying to sort out my mother's medical and untreated mental health crisis without any support. This "terminal" diagnosis arrived just as we were trying to stabilize her living situation and finances. Unfortunately, at this time, I must focus on supporting my mother through the treatments she is enduring, rehabilitation to whatever degree possible, and providing a safe and stable environment for her to spend the rest of her life.
It pains me to admit, but I need help in doing so. This crisis came at the "wrong time." It crippled our ability to get our feet back underneath us after draining our savings to get into a new rental where we could be close to my mother for continued support and covering the expense of two households in the months prior.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to hear our story, and for helping in any way, you feel called and can.
Thank you.
