Help Medical ICU Nurse Barry Chapman Beat COVID!
Barry Chapman is a registered nurse who is fighting for his life at Largo Medical Center. He contracted COVID-19 and unfortunately became very ill requiring oxygen and eventually mechanical ventilation. He is currently still critically ill on a ventilator and is receiving medications to support his heart functions.
Barry Chapman is a wonderful person and a veteran nurse. He has been working in our Medical ICU (MICU) for several years including the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic. He is used to caring for others, not the other way around. Not only does he care for very sick patients, but he is the kind of guy that goes above and beyond. For example, he once took it upon himself to raise money for the child of a patient who could not get out of the hospital to buy Christmas presents. Another co-worker also recently shared a story in which Barry offered to share his holiday meal with the loved one of a patient who would otherwise spend the holiday alone.
Barry’s ICU co-workers love Barry for his kindness and his willingness to help. When a patient is in trouble, even if it is not his patient, Barry is one of the first to jump in and start helping. When someone wants coffee at work, Barry has been known to pay for it just out of the kindness of his heart. Work is not the same without him. Barry has many other co-workers and friends in the PACU and other areas of the hospital who miss him – he is cared for by so many!
Barry is not the kind of guy to ask for help like this because he is usually the one helping others. However, he is in a time of great need. Based on our knowledge and training, we anticipate that Barry will require extensive care not only in the acute phase of his illness but in the months to come. This will prevent him from working at his nursing job and receiving pay. Barry is also a small business owner and he and his wife help care for their elderly parents, so they need our support. We want Barry to be able to focus on getting better. The last thing Barry and his family should worry about right now is their finances.
All the money received here will be given to Barry’s wife. Please share this fundraiser and no amount is too small. On behalf of Barry and the Chapmans, we thank you so much for your support!
Sincerely,
Barry’s co-workers in the MICU
