Help Mehari & his family live in Egypt
Donation protected
My name is Charlie Brown and I work for a humanitarian displacement organisation. During 2020-2021 I worked in a refugee camp on the Sudanese/Ethiopian border and I had the pleasure of meeting Mehari who was at the time living in the camp with his family - having fled the war in Tigray which broke out in November 2020. I saw Mehari most days I was in the camp and he became a friend – we would walk and talk together in the camp. He told me about his family and his life back home in Tigray as a judge. He would help me find people who needed the organisation’s assistance, he helped with translations and letting me know about what was going on in his community and who might be in need. Mehari is a kind and intelligent man with a big heart. He has a wife and two young girls who were also in the camp with him. Sadly, because of the war in Sudan, Mehari and his family have now had to flee again and have found their way to Egypt. Whilst Egypt is safe for now, he and his wife are unable to work and he is relying on church donations in order to feed himself and his family. His children are unable to go to school and there is very little hope for the future. In the years I have known Mehari he has not asked for help from me but recently it became apparent that he needed some assistance. So I am asking for your help to raise money for Mehari and his family to live in Egypt, be able to pay for the necessities and send his children to school.
Mehari wrote the following about his past few years...
“My name is Mehari from the regional state of Tigray, Ethiopia. I am a married man and a father of two beautiful daughters, 9 and 4 years old. I studied law and in Tigray I worked as an attorney and consultant at law and as a judge up to the level of high court. Back then in Tigray I had big dreams, I dreamed of upgrading my academic career, having a big happy family, creating conducive environment for the future of my daughters, supporting my parents and the needy ones in general. However, With the outbreak of the northern Ethiopia's genocidal war, I fled to Sudan and spent 3 years in a refugee camp in eastern Sudan. Nevertheless, as the war in Sudan neared our camp (and I had protection issues related to my previous job as a judge) I feared for my safety and for the safety of my family and left Sudan and came to Egypt. And now here in Egypt, life is really complicated and tough. Job opportunity specially for refugee is almost zero. So, this has left me with no hope as I am unable to fulfill the basic needs of my family let alone to dream about the future."
Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your support.
(Money raised from this donation page will be withdrawn by me and then sent to Mehari due to gofundme location restrictions.
Please also note for safety reasons we have decided not to use a photo of Mehari and his family - the photo above is of the refugee camp in Sudan taken by me when I was working there.)
