Help Melissa treat her life threatening disease.

Hi, my name is Melissa Shute and I’m fundraising for myself. Back in July of this year I became sick thinking it was just a simple cold or Covid.. until two weeks later I could hardly walk five feet in front of me. I was admitted July 31 with my hemoglobin at 33% and was told I was bleeding out. My world came crashing down, there was only one thought in my mind at this point and that was my two boys being without a mother.. The er dr had mentioned they’ve never seen anyone out in public walking even five feet with a hemoglobin of 33%. That night I had several blood transfusions… I spent almost three months in hospital with the title of “You’re a rare case” meaning they don’t know what is wrong with me. I spent countless days and hours and almost lost my life twice and still able to if I’m not careful. I was working with several specialists and currently working with my oncologist. I was eventually diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a bone marrow disease. The bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue inside bones. Severe aplastic anemia causes the bone marrow to not make enough blood cells for the body. Those blood cells are: Red blood cells to carry oxygen, White blood cells to fight infection, Platelets to control bleeding. I’m currently taking medication to help control and prevent infections while I wait for the go ahead from my oncologist to have a stem cell transplant. In the meantime I’m home having blood work in hospital every Monday and Thursday which usually turns into a longer stay when my numbers are low and need platelets and blood transfusions. I am hoping to discuss more about my transplant in the next few weeks, but in the meantime I need transportation. I don’t own a car and I live a half hour outside of the city. I am not working because this disease has taken over and every day is different, social development can help to a certain extent, there is no bus and cab fair one way is more than 30$. I have been missing some of my appointments and treatments because I can’t afford transportation and my help can only drive me so many times because they have to work. This fundraising money will be used strictly for a vehicle to get me back and forth to the hospital and for my upcoming transplant which is out of province in Halifax, also help with my monthly bills I’m behind on and to have a little extra for emergencies. So I greatly appreciate anyone who can help in the meantime ❤️
