Help Melody Fight!!
Donation protected
I've organized this to help this sweet baby girl Melody who is as strong as they come for only being shy of 5 months old!
Mom (Ariel) and Dad ( Joseph) have and are doing all they absolutely can to be with their daughter but I would like to help take some stress off of them in the meantime. They deserve to be able to focus on Melody and not the stress of all the financial burden this will be for them for the next minimum 6weeks!
I've included in this exactly what this sweet girl is battling.
Ok, here is the news. It's not good. Just had a long talk with the Dr. He explained as much as he could atm
THE PROBLEM
The lower left chamber of her heart is not pumping properly. This is causing her heart to grow to compensate. The flap between the upper and lower chamber is not closing all the way because the heart is bigger. So some blood is leaking between the chambers, and some fluid is building up in her lungs. This causes her to breathe much faster. She also has a virus in her heart, causing the fever. The virus likely happened because her heart was so weak right now.
THE CAUSE
Can be genetic, or a nutrition or enzyme deficiency he is doing tests to explore the cause they may take days to come back. He said 50% chance he may never know the cause with certainty. We are not sure about the type of virus she has waiting on those test results. But the virus did not cause this. The heart issue came first.
THE TREATMENT
currently, she is on medications to get her heart to pump normally, pain meds, antibiotics for the virus, oxygen, and sedation so she can rest. He said she is currently stable and doing well. He plans to keep her on this treatment for at least 72 hours and hopes she continues to be stable.
SHORT TERM PLAN
She will be here at the hospital for a min of 6 to 8 weeks. Her recovery can go in 3 different directions .
1. Best outcome. She is stable and does well for min 72 hours and he will slowly one at a time lighten the medications and treatments and go from there.
2. She becomes worse and the meds aren't helping and she goes into cardiac arrest and they will intubate her and put her on a heart and lung machine.
3. She stays stable but does not tolerate the removal of the medications. If she is not able to maintain normal heart rather on her own they will need to do surgery to put her on a heart machine. Thay is outside of her body. This will allow her to not be in bed all the time and be able to be held and play like a normal child. But she will not be able to leave the hospital.
He said option 2 and 3 both end in needing a heart transplant.
I asked if children ever make a full recovery and live normal life without medications. He said yes but percentage is low. He Said less than 50% but that is higher if they are diagnosed under age of 2. There was nothing anyone could have done differently. He said these usually develope over a few weeks but symptoms look like other things. He said most come to hospital at this stage and bringing her earlier would not have changed it.
It's a lot to take in we have ti see what the next few days bring and hope for the best.
Please help in any possible way you can and if you are not in the position to do so please share and help support the little family!
We all love you Melody and are so optimistic you will fight through this
