Help mend Africa's broken heart
Africa arrived in the care of Candys Hound Rescue after being pulled from a shelter in Spain.
She began to display some worrying signs so was taken to the vet where she was diagnosed with heart failure.
Yesterday Africa was taken to see a heart specialist to see if there was anything that could be done to save her, whilst having another scan they found her heart is now 4x the size it should be and then went on to diagnose her with PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus).
This is a birth defect that is normally found at birth and will sometimes close by itself, sadly Africas hasn't closed and she is now left with a hole that the vets believe they can close with a small plug.
Without the op and on just medication Africa will have only 6-8 weeks to live.
If the operation is done, then she can hopefully go on to live a pretty normal life but her life expectancy will be shorter than normal.
We believe Africa deserves this chance to live and go on to find her forever home and family, please help us to ensure we can do this for Africa.
