A year into launching Pink Shark Media, my business partner, Meri Karenovna, started experiencing strange health issues—issues that no doctor could explain. It began with her eyesight. Some days, she couldn’t drive herself to content shoots, so Mason would step in to drive. Specialists ran tests but found nothing conclusive. "It’s probably stress," they told her.

Her vision eventually returned (randomly), but new symptoms kept appearing. Shortness of breath. Fatigue. Then, she lost her voice for four months. An ENT doctor suggested vocal exercises, but nothing changed.

Frustrated and exhausted, Meri checked herself into the hospital, determined to get real answers. She spent seven days undergoing test after test. That’s when doctors finally diagnosed her with Stage 4 Thymoma Cancer—a rare and slow-growing cancer that had been silently progressing while she pushed through work, never once complaining.

Looking back, I see that the signs were there. We assumed the meetings she missed were scheduling errors. The exhaustion we chalked up to long hours. But it was so much more than that.
