Help Meyer Family Heal Horrific Compound Fracture
Hello, lovely and beautiful friends.
If you're here, you probably have heard about Mary's horrific ankle accident. Mary was out swimming and hiking when fell 20 feet into water and landed on her foot, which hit a rock before Mary's body was fully submerged in the water. Mary immediately knew she hurt her ankle and pulled both feet up to look at them. That's when she saw her foot and ankle dangling to the side of the leg, barely attached by some tissue, and saw bones protruding from the leg.
Thanks to her heroic brothers who swam while holding Mary to get her 1/2 a mile downriver to be able to be removed from the water, and who applied a tourniquet which slowed blood flow and most likely saved her life, and thanks to the first responders and volunteers, Mary was safely put in the ambulance 45 minutes after her accident. She was transported to Boise St Als where they set the bone and immediately did a cleaning surgery. They placed an external fixation and let the swelling come down before doing another cleaning surgery a couple days later. There have been complications along the way and at this point the doctors are fighting fungus in the wound and trying to get the area as clean and healthy as possible so that when they are finally able to place the plates and screws there will not be any complications.
The doctors are also concerned about the risk of her losing her foot and leg due to the fungus and unhealthy tissue. We are a week and half into this injury and it looks like it will be at least twice as long, if not longer before she is able to start healing and go home. The external fixation has her foot in a prolonged state of healing which has caused an extreme amount of pain. This pain will significantly decrease after her repair surgery. The pain has kept her from being able to sleep and it has taken its toll on her mentally and physically. Because of COVID there is a 1 visitor per 24 hour period. The family has been taking turns staying with her for those 24 hrs so she is never alone in her pain. This has also prevented her from being able to see her son. She has gotten to see the baby fairly consistently but she misses her son terribly and just wants to be able to hold him.
Because Mary needs round the clock care that has made it difficult for her husband to be able to work and juggle setting up care for the kids and Mary. With this being such an extensive injury and a prolonged recovery, it is becoming more difficult to make sure those needs are met. Mary and Roy have had so many kind people reach out and help out in such wonderful, thoughtful, caring, practical, and unexpected ways.
We have created this GoFundME because there has been a large amount of people wanting to contribute financially during this horrific accident. This felt like the most convenient, organized way to do so. If you are wanting to join the meal train, we put a link in for that. If there is another way you would like to help please reach out to her sister Tybekah and she can assist you in that. Thank you all for the love and prayers you have showered Mary and Roy and their family with.
Blessings,
Loved ones of the Meyer Family
