Help Mia's Parents Get Into Assisted Living

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Mia Aguirre (27), and I am the only child of Mary Lou (65) and Arturo Aguirre (71).

My parents live in San Antonio, Texas, and I live in New York City, managing their health care from afar.

It's been a very long battle with managing my parents declining health over the last 25 years, and now, we've finally gotten to a point where we can't do this alone anymore. And we are asking for help.

Currently my dad is in the hospital for kidney failure, and will be starting Dialysis 3X per week as of today. He was rushed there at 4:30a.m. this morning, after my mother crawled to the front door to let in EMS. My mother has a severe case of Parkinson's and he is her primary care taker for everything from feeding her, helping her in and out of her wheelchair, to helping her to the bathroom. My dad has lost feeling in both of his feet from his diabetes, and is still the one attempting to drive my mother to the doctor's, and needless to say, this terrifies me.

We need to get their house sold ASAP, and get them into an assisted living center with full-time care.

Unfortunately, the house is over 100 years old, and needs a lot of work. And sadly, both my parents and I are not able to afford to pay for both the house payments and the assisted living at the same time. I went down in June of 2021 and did as many renovations as I could myself for 2 weeks, but financially, I can't afford to take the amount of time off of work it would require to finish things, and neither of my parents can do the work themselves in their condition.

I am reaching out to raise funds for at home health providers for my parents, to help with daily care, hiring people to help with the odds and ends of things to get the house ready to sell, airfare to get me home to help them, and most importantly, funds to help pay for the assisted living facility.

A little background on my parent's health for those who wish to know more:
My mom, a registered nurse of 35+ years, has taken care of my father for decades as he battled 2 heart surgeries in 2007 due to a blood clotting disorder, along with a major brain surgery in 2010 due to bleeding in his brain from hypertension and the blood thinner he has to take for his clotting disorder. My mom is one of those people who will give you the shirt off her back, and did everything for him while also being a mother to me. She has had a long journey with bi-polar disorder herself, leaving a lot of responsibility on me to help both of my parents as a child and now as an adult. But I'm only 27, and I really hoped I would be older and in a more solid place in my life while managing desperate and urgent health care for both of my parents.

Two years ago, after a decade of symptoms we associated with early onset dementia, my mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's. She now can no longer walk, and needs help with almost all daily activities like bathing, eating, going to the bathroom and getting in and out of bed.

My dad said "it's my turn now" and has stepped up to take care of her everyday. However, because he cannot leave her alone, he has started neglecting his own health because he is too afraid to leave her for a few hours to go to the doctor. After several scares, he can't keep doing this anymore.

Please, if you can, consider donating. I am at a loss, and these two beautiful people deserve to live out the rest of their lives as safely as possible. Insurance only covers so much, and unfortunately at home providers for daily care and assisted living facilities are not among them.
